Hiring the Estate

Not all parts of Dartmoor Training Area, or indeed, other Defence Training Estates in the South West are required for training purposes every day of the week.

As long as proposed activities do not interfere with any of the Armed Forces’ vital training activities, this ‘irreducible spare capacity’ can be hired out for private or commercial use. The income generated by these events helps reduce the financial burden on the taxpayer.

Nationwide, the Defence Training Estate (DTE) has been used for many purposes, from filming to falconry, motor sports to model aircraft flying, corporate training to concerts and much more.

Please remember: the MOD must never lose sight of its prime defence purpose; events have to be appropriate, with due regard to MOD property and the environment.

Typical Uses

Filming Locations, Seminars, Conventions, Accommodation, Camping, Meals, Dinners, Storage, Fetes, Orienteering, Sports activities, Motor car and bike events, Training Courses, Re-enactment groups, Commercial Use, Car parking / storage, Horse riding, Team building.
